Last Tuesday (18), Google held the Google I / O 2021 event, where the company announced a new for the next months. Among them, the Google MUM (Multitask Unified Model). An evolved version of the traditional search engine. Through Artificial Intelligence, it provides more elaborate answers to questions that would be researched in several stages.
The search engine is trained in 75 languages and promises to answer in the way that “an expert would do”. Searches and fonts do not have to be in the same language. For example, an English-speaking user may receive as a result a page translated into his language, but which was originally in Japanese.
In practice
To exemplify the use of the resource, Google simulated the questioning of an adventurer who climbed Mount Adams and now plans to climb Mount Fuji.
Google said MUM can surface insights based on its deep knowledge of the world, it could highlight that while both mountains are roughly the same elevation, fall is the rainy season on Mt. Fuji so you might need a waterproof jacket. MUM could also surface helpful subtopics for deeper exploration — like the top-rated gear or best training exercises — with pointers to helpful articles, videos and images from across the web.
Functionalities
Searches no longer need to be done in text. It is possible to take a picture of something and ask for information about it for artificial intelligence. And in the future, MUM will be able to understand audio and video.
For those who like technologies, this is a major milestone in evolution. However, Google said they will continue to develop the innovation and that for the time being it should not be available to the public. For us, it remains to wait for the news to come into reality.
